VASTU SHASTRA
Vastu is a Sanskrit word, wherein “Vas” means live and “Tu” means you, where you live. In olden times our Indian architects designed buildings to get the best from the nature inside the premises when they constructed anything whether it was a common man’s house, a temple or a huge palace.
As human life evolved, progressed and polarized towards western technologies, the ancient and valid Vastu principles of constructing residential, educational and working structures were ignored, compromised or underplayed. The temples however largely remained true to Vastu principles. This led to contamination of environment in these constructions and had devastating impact on the inhabitants.
Luckily as even in ancient times, not all constructions were constructed as per Vastu principles, the ancient learned created remedies to correct Vastu Doshas (faults). Today, application of these ancient corrective knowledge has benefitted many. An energized space with increased positive energy tends to either create a balance in the energy flow or neutralize and clear the negative energy zones bringing health, wealth, peace and prosperity for the inhabitants.
Directions have natural flow of energy. Vastu principles fundamentally divide every construction in different zones as per directions ensuring this natural flow of energy within the building. Think of it like how a house becomes pleasant if it is airy with adequate cross ventilation and sunlight by strategically placed wall openings like windows and doors. These principles may be incorporated at the planning level or corrected at a later date; in both cases they make a huge difference in life of the residents occupying the space whether a residence or a work place.
In Vastu every part of the edifice: corner, wall, door, window, loft, basement, entry, exit and so on; everything is taken into account. The functionality too remains in focus as to where the kitchen or pantry should be or how should the owner of a business place his desk and face which direction and so on.
In nutshell, Vastu principles guide scientifically why, what, which, where, how of storage, general furniture, kitchen stove, mirrors, working tables, machinery, study tables, bathrooms, servant’s room/quarter etc. inside a home.
At work place, Vastu helps decide the most beneficial placement of the raw stock, finished stock, the owner’s office, the safe, the employee’s desks, washrooms, machinery, pantry etc.
In educational institutions, the structural guidance for class rooms, practical/laboratory rooms, Staff rooms, Principal’s office, Management Office, the playground, the swimming pool, various game courts, toilets, gymnasium, library are specified to enhance the institution’s motto and keep the energy of the entire students and teaching staff well aligned.
Similar guidance is given for small /big retails outlets, parlors, salons, saloons, restaurants, health care institutions, health clubs, gymnasiums and all other such.
The modern Vastu is practical, scientific and importantly, effective, for new age lifestyle of vertical Buildings.
